Amerika MV was a British Motor cargo vessel of 10,218 tons built in 1930 - Burmeister & Wain´s Maskin & Skibsbyggerri A/S, Copenhagen ex Danish (Ostasiatike Kompagni, Copenhagen), and transferred in May 1940 to Ministry of War Transport, operated by United Baltic Corporation, London. On the 22nd April 1943 when on route from Halifax for Liverpool in Convoy HX-234 as a straggler carrying a cargo of 53 RCAF personnel and 8, 844 tons general cargo including metal, flour, meat and 200 bags of mail she was torpedoed by U-306 and sunk. 140 casualties 86 dead (including 37 passengers) - 54 survivors. 29 Danes lost their lives on this ship.
