Additional info: One of the recruits of the post war enlistment scheme for the British Army in Denmark was Poul Jacob Staermose, 14194980. It is not known what regiment he served with before being selected for officer training, or if this was decided already after joining up. On September 2nd 1947, he was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant(382273) in the 13/18 Hussars. In February 1949, he was promoted Lieutenant, still in the 13/18th with whom he served in Malaya. He resigned his commission in april 1951, but chose to remain in the UK. In 1960, he became a naturalized british subject, living near Hastings with the occupation of licensee of The Chequers, Lower Lake, Battle, Sussex. He seems to have stayed on there, as he married Marjorie A Conduit in 1957, getting 4 sons together. He died in 1978, but is shown in telephone directoriesfor Battle until 1981.
